IFC is a comedy network airing an expansive catalog of movies & sharp original programming such as Brockmire & Stan Against Evil. It’s tagline ‘Always on, Slightly Off’ is the backbone of their identity as a network both in voice & look. They occupy a unique niche of comedy & cult classics that draws a loyal audience. IFC sees things differently and so do its fans – they are Slightly Off and proud of it. IFC approached Gretel to refresh the look and feel of their network. Their 2013 identity (also done by Gretel) had grown stale with a host mimics across the industry, it was time for a change. Our brief was to revitalize IFC’s visual identity & update their network package to enhance their Slightly Off sensibility. Our solution reframes IFC’s visual expression as an accentuation of their voice through type & texture.
THE SYSTEM
Our identity centers around a playful typographic system that embodies and emboldens IFC's one-of-a-kind voice. The goal was to capture the love, enthusiasm, and deep knowledge of comedy and movies that only IFC has. Messaging is no longer a functional statement, but a conversation that creates visual texture. Titles, names, glyphs, tune-in times, and underlined text all live side-by-side as a dynamic cast of characters.











Promo Buckets
Promo buckets are self contained promos that have their own specific set up and structure. Each bucket follows a different concept to create any number of quick promo ideas within the system.
